How’s that? Rishabh Pant at the IPL auction? It could possibly happen with the way things are happening with Delhi Capital. Sources told CricBlogger that the GMR owners are backing Axar Patel more than Pant to lead the side after they opted for Hemang Badani over former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
Axar came close to getting the Delhi Capitals captaincy earlier as well but it was Pant who pipped him. With uncertainty being created, the partnership may eventually break if Pant’s wish list isn’t followed. “But then, if he is not the captain, where is the question of wish list?” a source asked.
Amongst the wishlist, Pant also asked the management for another stalwart like Yuvraj Singh to be on board, which was turned down. Pant’s choice was Badani. Therefore, Pant’s chances of being at the auction is much more a viable option rather than staying with the Delhi Capitals.
Earlier, Pant had met another co-owner of Delhi Capitals Parth Jindal and had a long meeting regarding his retention. But it is not Jindal’s term to run the affairs of Delhi Capitals for the next two years, as they have this unique arrangement of changing ownership after every two years. Pant isn’t fitting well with the present GMR management it seems.
Sources said that negotiations are still on and Pant is giving an indication of changing his franchisee if things don’t go as planned. “It’s not 100 per cent that Pant would continue to play for Delhi Capitals. He could be retained and traded later. He could also come at the auction,” a source told CricBlogger.
