The intense competition within the team for the wicketkeeping slot in white-ball cricket may have prompted Rishabh Pant to bat at No. 3 this time for Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming Indian Premier League, sources told CricBlogger. It is understood that Pant himself has taken this call regarding his promotion in the batting order. This also means a Pant 2.0 could soon be on display for all those who enjoy his style of batting.
Earlier, Rishabh Pant was mostly seen batting at No. 4 and 5 for his Indian Premier League teams and had a mixed success story. But given the kind of explosive ability he possesses, batting at No. 3 could be the best possible option to showcase his comeback for Lucknow Super Giants.
It is also learnt that a big star in Indian cricket had once suggested to Rishabh Pant to bat lower down the order, which apparently did not suit his style of play. Sources said that Pant, being the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, has already taken the call to bat higher up the order — a move that could benefit both his team in IPL and strengthen his chances of staging a comeback into the World Cup squad.
Sources also said that the selectors are yet to take a call on how to include Sanju Samson in the ODI side after his superlative performances in the T20 World Cup, which India national cricket team won. However, the pressure has certainly mounted on Rishabh Pant to keep his ODI spot intact.
That said, the selectors are keen to see how Pant approaches this season of the Indian Premier League with Lucknow Super Giants, as his performances could play a crucial role in keeping his white-ball chances alive.
