Instead of leaving the verification process to state associations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed an independent agency to authenticate the documents of age-group cricketers across the Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 categories. The move is expected to make age-group cricket more transparent and accountable from this year onwards than ever before, sources told CricBlogger.

It is understood that, going forward, all age-group cricketers will be required to upload their documents through an online portal, where they will be scrutinised by the BCCI-appointed agency. The verification process will include a detailed examination of the player’s Aadhaar card history, along with date-of-birth validation.

Sources said the agency will also conduct independent online verification by contacting the relevant authorities, including schools and other issuing bodies, to establish the authenticity of the documents. Any discrepancy or evidence of manipulation could result in the player being declared ineligible and losing the right to represent his or her state in BCCI age-group competitions. “The date of birth in the Aadhaar card must match the birth certificate and should also be verified through the school records,” a BCCI source said.

The cricketers concerned will also be issued show-cause notices before any disciplinary action is taken against them for alleged document forgery or discrepancies found during the verification process, ensuring they are given an opportunity to present their case.

Besides undergoing the mandatory biometric tests history, players who wish to change their state association by updating the address on their Aadhaar card must do so before the September 1 deadline to become eligible to represent the new state after serving the mandatory one-year waiting period.

“If a player wants to represent a different state in the 2026-27 season, the address on his or her Aadhaar card must have been changed before September 1, 2025,” another BCCI source explained.

Sources said that before the online verification process begins to establish the authenticity of documents and identify suspicious cases, every cricketer will be required to submit a consent form. Players below the age of 18 will have to get the consent form signed by their parents or legal guardians. In addition, the player’s most recent Aadhaar photograph will be used as part of the background verification process.

With the BCCI tightening its verification process, complying with the new regulations is set to become far more demanding for young cricketers and their families. However, the stricter framework is expected to significantly curb age fraud and ensure a more transparent, credible and level playing field in India’s age-group cricket. If implemented effectively, the new system could mark a major step towards restoring confidence in the integrity of the country’s age-group competitions.
