Reacting to the Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka slamming his team captain KL Rahul, former Indian cricketer Karsen Ghavri came down heavily on the temperamental IPL team owner from Kolkata. “Even Mumbai Indians are losing matches, have the Ambanis gone down on the field and blasted Hardik Pandya?” a concerned Ghavri asked.
This is not cricket. As they say in England, if you don’t have etiquette, and if T20 triggers this kind of behavior, is it worth the money? “Goenka got away because it was KL Rahul who is a soft target. If it was Virat Kohli or any other Indian cricketer, that player would have given a piece of his mind to the owner,” Ghavri said.
“Can Goenka do the same with Sourav Ganguly?” Ghavri asked while adding that Ganguly would have given it back to him in the same fashion in front of the TV cameras.
Someone rightly said: Win some lose some but the promoters don’t understand the ethics of sports, what is the point then?
“And when LSG is doing well as a team, you are bound to have a bad day. The other team, which in this case was Hyderabad, did well to put the pressure back on the LSG bowlers. Where is KL’s fault? You could have still had a meeting inside somewhere. Instead, the LSG owner chose the field, which is completely unacceptable,” Ghavri added.
Because of this, a temperamental Goenka has been slammed all over the media, so much so that the incident has now been equated with the Ambanis removing Rohit Sharma from the Mumbai Indian captaincy. However, the Mumbai owners choose the closed-door way instead of the public domain.
