Indian coach Gautam Gambhir’s move for former KKR captain Nitish Rana to migrate from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) to Delhi has hit a major roadblock. The BCCI sources told CricBlogger that Rana will not be permitted to participate in the upcoming Delhi Premier League (DPL) this season.
The left-hander, who recently captained a franchise in UPCA’s T20 league, has not fulfilled the BCCI’s mandatory 12-month cooling-off period required for players switching state associations before representing another one in local tournaments. He, however, will be eligible to represent Delhi in BCCI trophies.
With the UPCA league and the DPL taking place around the same time, Rana’s recent involvement with UPCA renders him ineligible for the lucrative DPL. When CricBlogger reached out to Rana for comment, he was unavailable.
“Unfortunately, the 12-month cooling-off rule does not allow Rana to participate in the DPL this season,” a BCCI source said. “He has taken a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from UP and is eligible to represent Delhi officially, but he can only play the DPL next year.”
