A top Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official could be in legal soup following his assistants getting nabbed by the Delhi Police for black-marketing Delhi Capitals versus Gujarat Titans match tickets. The state of affairs in Delhi for IPL tickets is so bad that even top-grade officials are offering them to sell high-end tickets and then make money to buy low-grade tickets for distribution. The racket is so strong that it has percolated to all levels.
Sources said a Delhi university student was the first to be caught by the Delhi Police staff in and around the Ferzeshah Kotla before the Delhi-Gujarat match. The student revealed the name of a DDCA part-time worker responsible for liaison work at IPL matches. The Delhi Police detained the so-called professional. He then confessed the name of the assistants of a key DDCA member.
Subsequently, the assistant was also busted.
Efforts like persistent phone calls helped the detainees to get released. The police have seized their phones, and an investigation is on to punish the real culprit. Sources revealed that the match passes (worth Rs 1,800) were sold at premier cost.
Although black-marketing is a bailable offense, the real culprit should go scot-free. This particular incident could lead to an election issue as well. These regular offenders should be blocked from being in a position of strength to maintain the sanctity of the cricket association.
Not that a connection with a DDCA official is linked, but Delhi Police should go to the bottom of the case to punish the guilty. It will ensure proper distribution of tickets for the fans before DDCA implements its new stadium plan!
