The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), probably in a first of its kind in the country, met around 15 to 20 coaches and decided to prepare a long-term plan to make league cricket more engaging.
DDCA, which is spearheaded by president Rohan Jaitley, is likely to name one of the DDCA league tournaments in honour of senior coaches to acknowledge their service and dedication. The coaches suggested that a stalwart coach like Late Tarak Sinh’s name could be used to start a tournament under the guidance of DDCA
There are also suggestions to include coaches’ insurance policies “to ensure their welfare and security”. This is again a gigantic step taken if DDCA can implement it. This initiative is another out-of-the-box thinking which this meeting could come up with.
Held inside the Ferozshah Kotla complex, the meeting also discussed ways to uplift the image of the coaches who have served Delhi cricket for years. Like the way some of the associations put up their photographs inside the state association office, DDCA is also mulling to hang “coaches’ photos of those who served cricket for decades.
The coaches’ association of Delhi also raised the point of exorbitant tournament fees of some of the organisers which are at times beyond the means of the DDCA club. Therefore, DDCA may come into the picture to regularise these fees for better participation of clubs and players.
“Recognized tournaments must be affiliated with DDCA, and the tournament fees should be reasonable to encourage broader participation,” the minutes of the meeting said.
This meeting also deliberated on better facilities for premier division league matches by bringing in high quality ground facilities, SG cricket balls and better match officials to increase the competitiveness of the league. This will also be applicable for the under-16 and under-19 boys to develop the right kind of skill set.
