Will MS Dhoni put in a word for Shivam Dube to be included in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup? If Dhoni isn’t planning it, he should. He is known to do that. The way he is respected by the high and mighty of BCCI, Dhoni’s words will carry a lot of weight. Besides Dubey’s superlative form for the Chennai Super Kings, he is completely charged up against slow bowlers, which is the USP for the slow pitches in the West Indies and US.
Not that there is no slot left for Dubey to be included in the 15-member team for the World Cup. If there is a will, there is a way. If you can have a back-up for all positions in the team, why can’t the selectors have a back-up batting-pace-allrounder?
There is absolutely no threat to Hardik’s position in the team, but a Dubey kind of hard-hitter will only ensure that the Indian team isn’t found lacking in the ability to hit sixes at will when some of the teams have mostly power-hitters in their team.
Not that Dubey is not willing to bowl. After scoring a half-century against the Lucknow SuperGiants when the commentators suggested if he is ready to bowl, Dubey replied: “Definitely.” More he bowls, the better it is going to be for the future. Already under the tutelage of Dhoni, Dubey, who missed quite a few domestic tournaments for Mumbai last season and had an ordinary start to 2023 IPL, has picked himself up to become a brutal force with the bat.
Some are even batting for Dubey over Rinku Singh, whether that will happen or not is something time can only decide? But most certainly, Dhoni’s suggestions if taken, will be a big boost for Dubey’s inclusion. Who knows? Dhoni may have done it already. With names like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Rinku and Dube added to the list, India can really boast about picking some superb hitters of the cricket ball!
I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article.
