The Indian cricket board is offering a piecemeal approach to lesser-known state associations by appointing their representatives to key posts. After naming BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia from Assam and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia from Chhattisgarh, the board is set to appoint Rohan Desai as the new joint secretary, a top official told CricBlogger.
For the first time, office bearers outside of president Roger Binny (Karnataka) and vice-president Rajeev Shukla (Uttar Pradesh) are emerging from lesser-known cricketing states, signaling a shift in the board’s power dynamics. “Rohan Desai is going to be the new joint-secretary,” a top board official told CricBlogger.
Desai is currently the secretary of the Goa Cricket Association and is expected to take over as BCCI joint secretary from March 1. Sources also revealed that multiple candidates from the West Zone were in contention, and intense lobbying took place before the board ultimately finalized Desai’s name.
Earlier, Saikia served as the BCCI joint secretary before being elevated to his current role after Jay Shah was appointed as ICC chairman.
