Why can’t the Indian senior selection committee pick Shashank Singh in place of Rinku Singh for the T20 World Cup? Chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar & Co. may call it a knee-jerk reaction to pick Shashank ahead of Rinku and Shivam Dube – but what’s the point of not taking a risk when it is worth?
Time and again, the selectors have pointed to the need of picking players on their current form in the IPL, which should be the bench-mark and if Shashank is at par with Dube and performing consistently and better than Rinku, selectors should and would certainly discuss his name.
Of course, there won’t be the Indian tailor-made IPL kind of pitches in the ICC T20 World Cup, but who knows the confidence Shashank is picking by playing some exquisite knocks for the Punjab Kings, it may matter for him when he takes his guard on non-belter ICC pitches.
The selectors also may back Rinku for his durable performances in the Asian Games and has been around for some time, but is that enough?n
No risk means no chance of winning. Every time we have been defensive and keep losing ICC events one after the other. But this one chance, we should grab with both hands.
In nine matches so far, Shashank scored 263 runs at a strike-rate of 182.64 and an average of 65.75 – that too coming down the order. Every time he takes the strike he seems ready and set for any sort of challenge. He doesn’t need time to settle down to unleash his array of strokes. It’s time to unleash him immediately, what say you?
