Former KKR captain Nitish Rana, who had moved to Uttar Pradesh in search of greener pastures and even captained the state side, is likely to return to Delhi for the upcoming domestic season, sources close to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) told CricBlogger.
The UPCA sources also suggested that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir may have played a role in facilitating Rana’s move back to Delhi, reportedly advising him to pursue the transfer. The development has raised eyebrows, considering Gambhir’s primary focus is expected to be on the national team — not on influencing domestic team compositions, particularly those involving his home state.
Rana, who has represented India and made notable contributions in the IPL, has expressed his desire to return to his home team — Delhi — which he left two seasons ago. According to sources, he is currently in the process of completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer and is expected to turn out for Delhi in the coming domestic season.
Interestingly, Rana’s potential return to Delhi comes just weeks before the start of the Delhi Premier League. “Even the UPCA league is set to begin in a few weeks, so it will be interesting to see when exactly the transfer takes place,” a source from the UPCA told CricBlogger.
Attempts to reach out to Rana for a comment were unsuccessful, but the source remained confident about the move. “It’s more or less certain that Rana is leaving UP,” the official confirmed.
