Former Australian cricketer Justin Langer will not continue as head coach of Lucknow Super Giants from next season onwards, sources told CricBlogger. Langer, who was brought on board based on Indian team coach Gautam Gambhir’s recommendation, has struggled to build chemistry within the LSG setup — particularly with former India pacer and team mentor Zaheer Khan.
According to insiders, the working relationship between the two has not been smooth, leading to growing discomfort in the team environment. Thus, causing poor results and also getting knocked out from the play-off stages.
Sources also said Langer’s interaction with LSG’s top players has been limited, with former India pacer Zaheer Khan increasingly taking charge of the team’s day-to-day affairs.
“The dressing room structure isn’t good, and it’s reflecting on the field,” a source close to the developments said. “It’s essentially Zaheer who’s running the team. Either Langer or the franchise will make the exit official in the coming months after a review of the team’s performance.”
When CricBlogger attempted to reach out to LSG officials for a comment, they were unavailable. The situation raises questions about the franchise’s internal alignment and could have significant implications for their approach heading into the next IPL season.
