After all that happened in the last season — right from losing his captaincy to developing a misconnect with the franchise — the dynamics between Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians are rapidly improving. So much so that Rohit could stay with Mumbai Indians along with Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah.
Sources told CricBlogger that the Mumbai management was always more than keen to retain Rohit but it was the Indian captain’s wish that mattered the most, and now both the parties are closing in on the final agreement before announcing the retention list in the first week of November.
Sources said that the franchise has already spoken to Rohit and the money bit is being discussed now to zero down on the retention process. With another addition to his young family, Rohit playing for Mumbai makes more sense than going through the auction process and playing for some other team outside Mumbai.
Rohit’s bargaining power is more now than last year, as he is a World Champion T20 Indian team captain and so the stakes are high as far as Rohit is concerned. Earlier, CricBlogger had reported on how Mumbai’s mentor Sachin Tendulkar too had expressed his wish for Rohit to continue playing for his home team rather than going to the auction.
It also means if Rohit stays with Mumbai, Surya Kumar Yadav also stays put in the franchise. That Mumbai could be seen retaining all their four World Cupper stars and that is how they fought for retention of their core team members playing for their team rather than playing for some other IPL franchises.
