Hailing from a small whistle-stop near Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Shakti Singh has always embodied the spirit of an all-rounder. On the field, he charmed Indian domestic cricket with his skills as both a bowler and batter. Off the field, he continues to play the role of an all-rounder, albeit in different ways.

As a reputed IPL match-referee and a talented singer, Shakti’s life revolves around his two passions: cricket and music. Despite being a quality bowler with a top-arm release and a natural outswinger, Shakti was never considered for the Indian national team.

However, he harbors no regrets about his cricketing career, looking back fondly on those days. His love for the game is so deep that he continues to stay involved, even when most would have retired as match officials. Music provides Shakti with another creative outlet.

Unlike many cricketers who have dabbled in singing, Shakti is genuinely good. He loves singing for his cricket friends and can entertain them for hours. Recently, nearly 20 close friends of former cricketer Surinder Khanna gathered at the Park Boulevard hotel on Chattarpur Mandir Road to celebrate Shakti’s golden voice before his return to Mumbai from Himachal.

As he walked into the restaurant, which served mouth-watering starters and a main course, Shakti looked like a current player—thanks to his dietician son, who helps him and other match officials stay fit. The gathering’s main purpose was to celebrate Shakti’s singing.

The ‘Shakti Nite’ started with nostalgic songs from Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi to Arijit Singh and lasted nearly three hours. There was a remarkable variety in Shakti’s choice of songs, and he managed to express his unique self in each one he performed. His repertoire ranged across different genres and eras, showcasing his versatility and deep connection to music.

Each song was not just a performance but a personal expression, making the evening memorable for all who attended. Shakti’s ability to infuse his personality into every song he sang captivated his audience, further proving that his talents extend well beyond the cricket field.
