Did the Indian cricket board prompt chief selector Ajit Agarkar to find out from Virat Kohli his future plans before the Sydney Test against Australia? Sources insisted that the BCCI may have given Agarkar enough hints to get clarity on Kohli’s plan of action as his poor form was a cause of concern for the team.
Sources told CricBlogger that captain Rohit Sharma was on BCCI’s radar and a few board officials also wanted to know about Kohli’s future plan in the same breath. This may have prompted Agarkar to seek an answer from Kohli on his future plan, which CricBlogger reported.
With Kohli playing a match-winning unbeaten century against Pakistan and showing his intent to carry on playing Test and ODI for next couple of years at least, both BCCI and the selection committee, may have got their answer after the India-Pakistan game.
Kohli’s relentless hard work even when he wasn’t scoring has moved many members of the selection committee. Some board members are mesmerised with his will-power to hang in there when the chips are down.
Sources also said that Kohli was so head-strong to make a difference in the Pakistan game of the Champions Trophy that he came into the Dubai stadium nearly two hours before the team arrived.
Thereafter, he batted for nearly one hour for the match and was ready to fire on all cylinders when he came into bat on Sunday.
“Now he has put the future plan talk into rest,” a source said while adding that King Kohli would continue to play with this intent without thinking too much about the noises in and around the team.
