Dropping Rishabh Pant is always a big call, given his ability to single-handedly turn games. The Delhi wicket-keeper was in line to be dropped from the Sydney Test because coach Gautam Gambhir wasn’t impressed with his performances during the series. However, apparently, it was captain Rohit Sharma who saved the blushes for Pant.
However, in the opening ODI match against England, none came for Pant’s rescue. As reported by CricBlogger earlier, Pant was dropped and KL Rahul turned out to be the top choice as the wicket-keeper bat.
Former World Cup and Indian coach Madan Lal, however, wasn’t convinced with the decision to drop Pant. “Pant is a match-winner and he should have played the match. I have nothing against Rahul but Pant can’t be dropped,” Madan Lal told CricBlogger.
Pant is also facing competition in T20s. Whether Pant would have to tweak the way he plays his shots is tough to predict but a match-winner like him shouldn’t haven been dropped for sure!
