One more season gone and RCB’s Virat Kohli still doesn’t have an IPL trophy. After a dream run of six matches in the league stage, the most popular team in the IPL went down to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. It is not quite the script the RCB players would have wanted. Despite an excellent fan base and signing some star players, fortune hasn’t been in RCB’s favour.
The RCB management tried several permutations and combinations to set things right for its team. But nothing seemed to have worked. Months before the 2024 IPL began, the RCB management had invited a World Cupper to set the house in order. Sources said that the World Cupper at the first meeting wanted to eliminate Kohli from the RCB team to make a fresh start to their journey by building a team around the youngsters. In response, the management politely declined the offer of the World Cupper by saying: “Thank You.”
There has been a mutual love story between Kohli and RCB. It is going strong. At least to a point, the Delhiite is playing in the IPL. Not that the partnership hasn’t been profitable at all. They have mutually benefited from each other’s presence, and it is only the trophy bit that never happened.
Now that Kohli is in the last leg of his T20 career, still there is no trophy. So, what if Kohli has completed 8K runs in the IPL? So, what Kohli is the first batter to score over 8K runs in the IPL? Still, there is no trophy. The pick-up was excellent enough from Kohli while Rajasthan were chasing to bring RCB right into the game, but in the end, it wasn’t good enough!
