Indian Test captain Shubman Gill’s composed batting and technical finesse have caught the eye of many former greats — including India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, who praised Gill’s poise and form after the team’s commanding win over England.
“I love the way Gill is batting. He is in supreme touch. His batting is so clean,” Azharuddin told CricBlogger. “He is showing great technique, excellent temperament. Talent is something he always had.”
With each passing innings, Gill not only reinforces his status as a rising batting star but also looks every bit the leader India needs in the longest format.
Azharuddin was equally impressed with Gill’s leadership instincts. “What I like about Gill is his calmness on the field. He doesn’t rush things. He talks to both juniors and seniors and looks good to captain India even in ODIs in the days to come,” he said.
As Gill continues to mature both as a batter and leader, the calls for him to take on greater responsibility across formats are only getting louder — and with backing from legends like Azharuddin, that path may not be far off.
India’s emphatic Test win over England was made even more impressive by the absence of their premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah — a fact that wasn’t lost on former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin.
“What was remarkable about this win is that India did it without Jasprit Bumrah,” Azharuddin. “Both Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj were extremely effective. Siraj also took a very good catch — he contributed in all departments.”
Azharuddin reserved special praise for Akash Deep, magnifying his unique ability to trouble batters. “Akash Deep has this uncanny ability to skid the ball, which is a remarkable asset for India,” he said. “If he can come closer to the stumps while bowling, he could get more wickets through LBW decisions,” Azharuddin added.

Nice article. The efforts and tactics shown by newly appointed young and charming Shubman Gill. He didn’t look much bothered or confused even a single time by taking decisions led to the famous India win.
Superb article 👏 👌
