This is yet to be announced officially, but Roger Binny is no longer the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sources told CricBlogger that the BCCI management had requested Binny to continue in the post until the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September. However, Binny, who recently turned 70, is understood to have declined the offer to extend his tenure.
His exit leaves the powerful cricket board at a crucial juncture, with the search for his successor expected to gather momentum in the lead-up to the AGM.
In Roger Binny’s absence, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla presided over the Board’s apex council meeting, and by virtue of this role, the Uttar Pradesh cricket chief has effectively become the acting president of the BCCI until the next AGM.
It is also understood that Sachin Tendulkar could emerge as the next BCCI president. Sources indicate that serious efforts are underway within the Board to explore this possibility, with senior administrators viewing it as a potential masterstroke that could strengthen Indian cricket’s global standing.
Earlier, CricBlogger was the first to report that Shukla would assume the BCCI’s top post following Binny’s recent 70th birthday. With the transition now underway, Shukla is set to steer the board’s affairs and oversee key decisions until the official elections at the AGM.
