When it comes to Delhi cricket, one can’t keep Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir away from it. It’s fascinating to think that the stars, who share such a storied cricketing journey, are not only looking to join forces for Team India but could also be owning franchises in the newly launched Delhi Premier League.
The two rivals from Delhi who fought some fierce battle against each other in IPL could once again be seen locking horns if they manage to own teams in the DPL.
Sources told CricBlogger that both Kohli and Gambhir have shown interest in buying teams and they are still considering the pros and cons of it. It isn’t a surprise that Kohli is showing interest because he has already made some investments in other sports events and franchises while Gambhir was in talks with the Delhi capital promoters GMR in 2019 to buy a stake in the team.
This is purely business; the top players are truly eligible to buy teams. Whether they eventually come to the bidding table through their agents and business partners remains to be seen. Their involvement in owning a franchise could bring a new dynamic to the DPL, potentially raising its profile and providing opportunities for local talent in Delhi.
With the interest levels going up with every passing day and some of the other big corporations also in the fray, the bidding war is actually going to be interesting. It will also be interesting to see how their combined experience and vision translate into the success and growth of their franchise in the inaugural DPL season!
