Rajeev Shukla is in line to become the interim BCCI president when Roger Binny turns 70 this July 19, top sources told CricBlogger. With the incumbent position of vice-presidency, Shukla is already taking those big calls in consultation with other board members — based on his seniority in cricket administration.
“Shukla could be replacing Binny in July itself. The board officials are already discussing his name,” a source told CricBlogger.
According to the BCCI’s constitution, office bearers must retire upon reaching the age of 70, which would require current president Roger Binny to step down when he turns 70. In such situations, BCCI rules provide that the senior-most vice-president assumes the role of interim president until new elections are held.
“Shukla, who currently serves as BCCI vice-president, is a veteran cricket administrator and seasoned politician with prior experience as chairman of IPL,” the source added.
