Shivam Singh is the only player in the history of IPL who without playing a single domestic game, got his IPL contract with the Punjab Kings. This was possible because of his amazing ability to strike the ball which enabled him to earn a name in Delhi NCR in the last few years. But this May 19 will be a special day in Shivam’s life.
That is because he made his IPL debut against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the penultimate league match of the IPL.Eventually, Punjab lost the game by four wickets, and Shivam could only remain unbeaten on two. But he took two catches. The best part of the story is that the long wait is over. But he was finally rewarded for all those hard work and sleepless nights to fulfill his dream.
Honestly, it wasn’t a dream come true for Shivam to make his debut after nearly two years of wait. Sunday was also a dream come true for his immediate family and his second family in Baliawas near Gurugram. In between, Shivam did play at the Tamil Nadu Premier League in R Ashwin’s team and rubbed shoulders with the best of India over the years. But Shivam never got his dues. Still, he kept working hard on his skills.
From power-hitting practice to working under a professional physical trainer, Shivam didn’t leave any stone unturned to fulfill his desire to play top-level cricket. He has done it all. In between, he got a brand endorsement from a reputed Sanspareils Greenlands (SG) and plenty of recognition for his powerful batting displays.
Would you believe what he eventually asked for? Shivam only wanted good quality bats, which SG is an exponent of, and not money. How many players would opt for such an option?
In between, he also got plenty of assurances of playing for different state teams. But the promises were meant to be broken. Fortunately, Shivam was unbreakable. Shivam has only faith in God above. Today, he is reaping the benefits.
Finally, the prayers of his family and friends worked like magic. Someone like Shivam’s brother from a different mother cum friend, Avinash, is just on cloud nine seeing his big brother making his debut. So, when a Shivam kind of player makes his debut, it is not only the cricketer who is ecstatic. The whole entourage is celebrating. So is Baliawa!
