We know Virat Kohli is super fit. We know he won’t give up that easily. But do we know exactly how many years will he be gracing this game? “Virat will play at least four years of international cricket if not more and could play many more years in IPL if he wants to,” King Kohli’s childhood coach Raj Kumar Sharma told CricBlogger on Saturday.
Raj Kumar’s statement about Kohli’s future is hardly surprising. His fitness, hunger, and sheer love for the game suggest that he still has a lot to offer in international cricket, and his longevity in the IPL could be even longer if he chooses.
With the way Kohli has maintained his body and evolved his game, playing for at least four more years at the highest level seems very realistic. He has already adapted his batting to suit different formats, ensuring that even as he ages, he remains a dominant force. His ability to pace an innings, especially in ODIs along with his impeccable technique in Tests, means that India will continue to rely on him for years to come. At least, the next 2027 World Cup in South Africa could add another feather to his cap, who knows?
As for the IPL, it’s all about how long he wants to keep going. With the franchise system allowing players to prolong their careers without the demands of international cricket, Kohli could very well continue playing for RCB well into his early 40s if he remains motivated like MS Dhoni.
Ultimately, Kohli’s career will be dictated by his hunger for runs and titles, and if history has shown us anything, he isn’t one to back down anytime soon. “There is no stopping Kohli and time and again he has made it clear that he means business on the field as a batter,” Raj Kumar Sharma said while adding that consistency is the way to go when to comes to Kohli!
