The popularity of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) has grown significantly within Indian cricket, to the extent that two Railways women’s cricketers — Simran Dil Bahadur and Pratika Arawak — have sought permission from the BCCI to participate in the competition, sources told CricBlogger.
“It’s not just the men’s cricketers who are trying to shift back to Delhi for the DPL; even women’s cricketers are unwilling to let go of the opportunity to play in the tournament,” a source told CricBlogger.
Citing Delhi as her base, Simran has approached the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) seeking clearance to play in the league, assuring the association that she will comply with all applicable rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, Pratika, who has previously represented Delhi at the Under-19, Under-23 and senior levels, has also sought eligibility to participate in the DPL. A key member of India’s World Cup-winning women’s team last year, Pratika is eager to return to the Delhi cricket circuit. Simran, on the other hand, is currently part of the India A squad against England.
The requests also throw light on the growing stature of the DPL, which is increasingly attracting interest from established domestic and international women’s cricketers. Several players from outside Delhi are also keen to participate, highlighting the tournament’s growing appeal and reputation within the domestic circuit.
