Virat Kohli has once again rejected the offer to captain the Indian Test team though coach Gautam Gambhir wanted him to do so. The plum post was offered to Kohli after Rohit Sharma turned out to be a flop show during the Australian tour. Sources also said that Gambhir has suggested Jasprit Bumrah’s name as the full time captain along with his deputy in Yashasvi Jaiswal.
This is not the first time Kohli has rejected the offer to lead a team in recent months. Right from captaining a Ranji Trophy match to leading his IPL franchisee Kohli has principally decided not to wear the captaincy hat again. “This is his personal choice,” a source said.
The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, appears divided on the matter. While Gambhir advocates for Jaiswal’s elevation, there is a certain section in BCCI batting for Rishabh Pant as the next Test captain. Bumrah, renowned for his exceptional bowling skills, is being considered for the captaincy.
