With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) preparing to make changes in the National selection committee under the chairmanship of Ajit Agarkar, the reshuffle is expected to affect the South Zone and Central Zone representatives, with new faces likely to come in ahead of the upcoming season.
According to sources, S. Sarath is set to move back to the junior selection committee, paving the way for new face. Pragyan Ojha — the former India left-arm spinner and IPL winner — could be one of them. Even former Indian pacer Tinu Yohannan is also in the fray. Meanwhile, in the Central Zone, the BCCI is considering replacing Subrata Banerjee.
Sources also said that the new batch of national selectors working under Agarkar are also set to receive a pay hike. Currently, Agarkar draws an annual remuneration of ₹3 crore, while the other four selectors earn around ₹90 lakh each.
According to sources, the BCCI is considering a proposal to increase the salaries of the other selectors to ₹1.5 crore or more (Rs 1.75 cr), in order to reduce the wide disparity between the chief selector and his colleagues.
While it is not yet clear whether Agarkar himself will also see a hike, the move is being viewed as part of the BCCI’s effort to bring greater parity and recognition to the entire selection panel.
Officials believe that narrowing the salary gap will also help attract and retain high-profile former cricketers in the selection committee, a role that has historically been less lucrative compared to coaching or commentary opportunities.
By offering better financial incentives, the BCCI aims to ensure that selectors remain motivated and fully committed to the demanding task of talent identification and team selection for India across formats. The decision on the revised pay structure is expected to be discussed in the upcoming BCCI meetings, and an announcement could follow before the next international season begins.
