Keeping in mind that the domestic cricket is just round the corner, crusader Aditya Verma suggested names of former Indian cricketers — Rajesh Chauhan and Doda Ganesh – as members of Bihar’s cricket committee in wake of the final judgement (dated 05.08.2024) passed by the Hon’ble Patna High Court to bring in fair and transparent selection process. Chauhan’s name is also suggested as the chairman of the committee for his cricket acumen.
“These individuals were previously considered for selection but were overlooked due to the corrupt practices within the Bihar Cricket Association, as highlighted by the Hon’ble Patna High Court in its judgment. Establishing this committee will help restore integrity and fairness to the selection process, ensuring that deserving players are chosen on merit,” Verma said in a letter to BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.
“A significant amount of funds has been allocated to the Bihar Cricket Association from 2018 to the present. However, there has been a complete lack of transparency regarding the expenditure of these funds, with no accounts or financial statements provided by the Bihar Cricket Association,” Verma said while mentioning misappropriation of funds that has been the talking point about the Bihar cricket functionary.
Verma also raised the point of appointing an auditor to conduct an independent probe of the accounting of the state cricket body. “This audit is essential to ensure accountability, uncover any misuse of funds, and restore trust in the financial management of the association. The findings of this audit should be made public to promote transparency and uphold the principles of good governance as emphasized by the Hon’ble Patna High Court,” Verma added.
